Deeply prized for its intense year-round color and graceful, mounding habit, Loropetalum chinense 'Plum Gorgeous' is a standout cultivar of the Chinese Fringe Flower. Unlike some varieties that fade to green in the heat of summer, 'Plum Gorgeous' maintains its signature deep-plum to near-black foliage through all seasons. In spring and often again in autumn, the shrub is transformed by a prolific display of vivid magenta, tassel-like flowers that pop brilliantly against the dark leaves.

Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. Ensure the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the soil surface to prevent crown rot. Use a well-draining, slightly acidic soil mix.

'Plum Gorgeous' has a naturally compact, mounding habit and requires minimal pruning. If shaping is desired, prune immediately after the spring bloom to avoid cutting off next year's flower buds.

Apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer (specifically formulated for acid-loving plants) in early spring. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers which can favor leaf growth over the iconic fringe blooms.

In colder regions of its range, apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base to protect the root system. Ensure the plant is well-watered before the first freeze, as dry roots are more susceptible to cold damage.
