Plant Care

Will this plant thrive in your climate?

Make sure you live within USDA Zones 7-9 by checking our Grow Zone Guide.

Planting

Plant in full sun for maximum fruit production. Requires highly acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5) rich in organic matter. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and set the plant 1–2 inches above the soil level to ensure excellent drainage.

Pruning

Prune in late spring immediately after the berry harvest. Focus on thinning the center to improve sunlight penetration and air circulation. Remove any dead or weak wood to encourage vigorous new fruiting canes for the next season.

Fertilizing

Apply a slow-release, acid-loving fertilizer (like an Azalea or Camellia blend) yearly in early spring. Avoid fertilizers containing nitrates; instead, look for organic options or those formulated specifically for blueberries to maintain soil acidity.

Winter Preparation

Maintain a 3–4 inch layer of mulch (pine bark or pine needles) year-round to protect shallow roots. While deciduous, this variety is hardy down to 0°F; in its northernmost range, ensure it is well-watered before the first hard freeze.
